In this issue: - Conference Report - HIV in Europe 2009 Conference - Consensus definition of late presentation - Update on the HIV in Europe projects HIV Indicator Diseases Across Europe We're happy to announce that enrolment is underway and the first 400 patients are already enrolled. The first phase of the study (2009-2010) includes 17 centres in 14 countries and plans to screen 7500 persons with one of eight defined indicator diseases for HIV. All data is sent to the coordinating center at Copenhagen HIV Programme and entered into a central database. Thanks to everyone at the participating centres for their contribution and hard work to get the surveys initiated. The People Living with HIV Stigma Index HIV in Europe supports the implementation of ‘The People living with HIV Stigma Index’ in 3 countries and the advisory committee on the Stigma Index will ensure that country plans include questions related to late presentation and earlier diagnosis of HIV. The Criminalisation of HIV in the WHO European Region The pilot study investigating jurisdictions within the EU reflecting different legal traditions/approaches will be published first quater of 2010. The study will inform the development of a larger scale study of legislation in all European countries. Estimating the size of the infected not yet diagnosed population A report will be released summer 2010, providing guidance to countries on methods available and data needed to estimate numbers of people infected not yet diagnosed. A manuscript of a position paper focusing on the definition is being submitted for publication.
