In 2008 the Global Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+), the International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW), the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and UNAIDS presented ‘The People living with HIV Stigma Index’. The Index aims to build the evidence base for understanding stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with HIV in different countries.
The index creates a great opportunity for the HIV in Europe initiative to gather data within countries and facilitate comparisons between countries.
HIV in Europe’s stigma index project builds on this work and will roll out the stigma index in 5 countries in the European region focusing on stigma in relation to HIV testing and access to treatment.
